today's order to everyone: go to in rainbows, and download the new radiohead album. pay as much you want to for it (yes, it's up to you. really).

listen to it ad infinitum.

it IS that good.

no, it is BETTER than that.

The Nobel Peace Prize...
...was awarded to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and the former Vice President of the United States, Albert Arnold Gore Jr for "their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change".

In my opinion a political, but very good choice. No matter what the Peace Prize Committee leader, Ole D. Mjøs stated - this is a kick in the gonads of the Bush administrations, and all the people around the world that won't accept scientific fact.

Congratulations !

surprise !
It was just announced that the Nobel Prize in Literature for 2007 was awarded to Doris Lessing.

Once again, the academy surprised me, and a lot of other people with their choice. Well-deserved, and definitely one of the "lifetime awards", but still, congratulations.

cultural double-header
thanks to apparat and [info]siri_bookhouse, and [info]september_gurl too, last night was spent beering (yay, beer !) and getting a healthy dosage of culture (okay, maybe i'm streching the concept of culture a bit here, but who cares...)

first off to mono, to listen to johan harstad reading from his latest novel, "hässelby".
can't say i've read any of his books before, but now i definitely will. the other readers were of, uhm, hmm, varying quality.
ok, that's a lie.
some of them were really ok, but the poet-turned-novelist was just horrible. or rather, beyond horrible. i'm sad i'll never get those 15 minutes spent listening to her neverending nonsense back.
if any of you faithful readers actually buys her novel, or even worse, give it to me as a present, i'm gonna have to bring my baseball bat out from under my bed, and then in close contact with your heads. 'cause it was crap, and utter crap.

after a short chicken kebab shawarma break, we then headed off to cosmopolite, as the new pornographers wanted to bring a bit of sunshine into our heads and minds. at least that's how i tend to think of their music (if this sounds pretentious and pompous, it's on purpose...). great show, but the crowd seemed a bit uninterested. sad, really, as carl & co really did their best to get the crowd going.
maybe it was because the warm-up band, the jessica fletchers, played so loud everyone was a bit deaf ? i usually don't bother with earplugs at concerts like this, but a pair was really needed last night.

i was a bit disappointed that the wonderful neko case wasn't with the band this evening, though...

anyways, yay for concerts and beer.

Cirque du Soleil...
...was absolutely fantastic.
I'm still completely stunned by the performance, and expect that feeling to last for ... ages.

Bread and circuses
The day is finally here, since I bought the tickets 6 months ago.

Cirque du Soleil is in Oslo, with their show "Delirium".
According to the reviews, the show is fantastic.
Been hoping to see Cirque's show (any of their shows, actually...) for years now, wonderful to finally get the opportunity to do so...

joni mitchell
order to everyone i know: buy the new joni mitchell album "shine" - it is really, really good.
enjoy it with a glass of port, on the couch at home after starting the week with tons of overtime.
that's what i just did.
right now, i want to go back in time and do it again, but sleep beckons.

now, begone.

oh well.
being the "rather red than dead" person i am, i was hoping for a regime change in oslo.
this won't happen.
SVs result was just horrible, killing every hope of a new city council.
regardless of Ap doing really well, and my preferred choice in oslo, RV/Rødt doing extremely well.
congrats to Venstre and Høyre, good riddance to the dimwits in Frp.

rematch in a couple of years, and even more so in four years ?

guess so.
